Tasting Notes
In general 2019 produced wines more balanced towards terroir specific flavors. Momtazi is our most textural and umami-driven wine, with lovely aromas of spice, smoky earth, and dried black fruit. It is quite elegant on the mid-palate with the finish blossoming to more floral notes with hints of cocoa powder. This will pair beautifully with winter stews and roasted vegetables. Great with cassoulet and mushroom dishes.

REVIEWS

Vinous - Eric Guido

Dark and brooding, opening with an earthy blend of woodland berries, cedar shavings, wild herbs and cloves. This mixes sweet and sour sensations as ripe red berry fruits sweep across the palate in silken textures, contrasted by a tinge of sour citrus and saline minerals toward the close. It leaves a resonance of violet candies and edgy tannins to linger on, finishing with admirable length and a pleasantly chewy sensation.

Wine Spectator

Floral and gracefully structured, offering lively flavors of cherry and strawberry laced with rose petal and dusky spice notes as this red builds tension toward refined tannins.

Vineyard Notes
Momtazi Vineyard is located in the McMinnville AVA, 7 miles west of McMinnville, Oregon. The Pinot Noir grapes for this wine come from four blocks at the top of the vineyard on a steep, exposed and windblown hillside. Planted in 1999 and 2004 on thin, poor soils, the vines have a south and SW exposure at an elevation of 680-760'. The vineyard is certified biodynamic by Demeter.
Production Notes
Release Date: Apr 2023; Production 1152 cases. The de-stemmed grapes were fermented in 4-8 ton stainless steel and Burgundy oak fermenters with no SO2, allowing the fermentations to process naturally. After gentle pressing and settling, the wine aged in French oak barrels, 21% of which were new, for 16 months before bottling by gravity and without fining.
Food Pairing Notes
