Tasting Notes
This is our first vintage of Chardonnay produced from Temperance Hill Vineyard. The block is east-facing, near the top of the vineyard at 800’ in elevation and the soil is volcanic (different than our Chardonnay from Freedom Hill). The textures of this wine are very broad, almost oily with juicy acidity into the finish. We recommend saving a bottle and tasting it in 3-4 years.
Vineyard Notes
Temperance Hill Vineyard is located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, ten miles NW of Salem, Oregon, and is organically farmed. This exposed, cool high altitude site ripens later than surrounding vineyards. Our Pinot noir grapes come from three blocks planted on thin weathered basalt. The East Block planted in 1984 is on a steep hill rising to 870’. The “R” (2004) and Pump House Blocks (1995) face south.
Production Notes
Release Date: Nov 2022; Production: 28 cases. The grapes were whole cluster pressed. After settling, the juice was barrel fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine completed malolactic fermentation naturally and was aged sur lees for 11 months entirely in used French oak barrels.
Food Pairing Notes
Sautéed firm white fish sauced with a beurre blanc on farro.
